Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

For the in-country temporary residence permit, Polish law sets a target of 60 days to process a complete application (counted from the date the application, together with all required annexes and documents, is complete). In practice, waiting times can be longer where files are incomplete or where the voivodeship office has a backlog.

National (D-type) visa processing happens at the Polish consulate abroad and the timeframe depends on the individual consulate and the purpose of stay, so you should confirm the expected processing window with the consulate handling your application.

Temporary residence permit timeline

  • Target: within 60 days of a complete application being submitted
  • A decision to grant is issued no earlier than one month after proceedings begin
  • Your stay is treated as legal while a timely, correctly lodged application is being processed until a final decision is issued

Appeals

  • An appeal against the voivode's decision goes to the Head of the Office for Foreigners
  • The appeal must be lodged within 14 days of receiving the decision
  • Appeals are examined within 90 days

National visa timeline

  • Handled by the Polish consulate abroad; timing varies by consulate and purpose
  • Apply well in advance and confirm the expected window with your specific consulate
