Fees for an Iceland residence permit application
Iceland charges a category-specific processing fee in Icelandic krónur (ISK), paid by bank transfer before the application is submitted; the receipt must be included.
Important
The Directorate of Immigration charges a processing fee that depends on the permit category. Fees are paid by bank transfer before submission and are non-refundable if you cancel; the payment receipt must be included with the application.
The amounts below are taken from the Directorate's official fee schedule on island.is. Fees are reviewed and updated periodically, so always confirm the current amount on the official fees page before paying.
First residence permit — selected categories (ISK)
- Work-based permit: 80,000 ISK
- Student: 70,000 ISK
- Spouse/partner: 110,000 ISK; children: 60,000 ISK; parent 67+: 110,000 ISK
- Au pair: 120,000 ISK
- Working holiday / youth mobility: 40,000 ISK (free for Japanese citizens)
- Special ties / special purpose / volunteer / missionary: 40,000 ISK each
- Provisional residence and work permit: 40,000 ISK; short-term residence permit: 12,200 ISK
Renewals, permanent residence and cards (ISK)
- Renewals: 40,000–120,000 ISK depending on permit type
- Permanent residence permit: adult 60,000 ISK; child 30,000 ISK
- Re-issuance of a residence permit card: 8,000 ISK
- EEA/EFTA family member card: 8,000 ISK
How to pay
- Pay by bank transfer before submitting the application
- Include the payment receipt as confirmation with the application
- Fees are non-refundable if the application is withdrawn
