Requirements

  • The sponsor holds a valid continuous, long-term or permanent residence permit
  • Documentary proof of the family relationship (marriage/birth certificates, legalised/translated)
  • Proof of adequate accommodation for the family
  • Proof of sufficient income to support the family without social assistance
  • Health insurance for the joining family members
  • Valid passports and type 'D' visas for the family members

  • Live in Bulgaria with your sponsoring family member
  • Renew the permit in line with the sponsor's residence
  • Access work and study within the limits set for family members by law
  • Build toward independent long-term or permanent residence over time

How to apply

The family members gather proof of the relationship and of the sponsor's residence status, income, accommodation and insurance.

They apply for type 'D' long-stay visas at the competent Bulgarian consulate.

After arrival they apply in person at the regional Migration Directorate for continuous residence permits, renewing in step with the sponsor.

  • Valid passports with type 'D' visas
  • Marriage and/or birth certificates evidencing the relationship (legalised and translated)
  • Copy of the sponsor's residence permit
  • Proof of adequate accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient family income
  • Health insurance and completed application forms
