Fees for a Bulgaria visa application
Bulgaria charges its national long-stay (Type D) visa fee by the legal ground of the visa, and residence-permit issuance is charged separately by the Migration Directorate.
Important
There are two distinct cost stages in Bulgaria's national process: the consular fee for the Type D long-stay visa (paid to the Bulgarian mission abroad), and the fee for issuing the residence permit itself (paid to the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Interior after you arrive). These are separate charges.
Bulgaria's national visa fees are set in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular tariff and differ according to which article of the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act the visa is issued under. Fees are generally non-refundable if a visa is refused.
National long-stay (Type D) consular fee
- Long-stay visa under Article 15(1) of the Foreigners Act: 100 EUR
- Long-stay visa under Article 15(2) (e.g. researchers, students, certain assignees): 200 EUR
- Fees are collected by the Bulgarian embassy/consulate and are not refunded on refusal
Residence permit issuance
The subsequent residence-permit card and any personal-number/express-service options are charged separately by the Migration Directorate under the Ministry of Interior tariff, and vary by residence type and service speed. Confirm the current amounts with the Migration Directorate at the time of application.
