Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

São Tomé and Príncipe manages entry authorisations (e-Visas) and residence permits online through the Serviço de Migração e Fronteiras (SMF). Short-stay visitors who are not visa-exempt apply through the eVisaST portal, while people coming to work, study, join family or settle apply through the e-Cidadão residence platform.

For an entry authorisation, apply at least 7 working days before travel, upload a digitised passport and supporting documents, and keep the process reference number generated on submission. The SMF states applicants receive a response within 7 working days, and the fee is paid on arrival at the border.

Basic steps

  • Confirm whether your nationality needs a visa or is exempt for a short stay
  • Choose the correct route: eVisaST entry authorisation for visits, e-Cidadão for residence
  • Complete the online form and upload the required documents
  • Save the process number and track the status online
  • Pay any fee at the border on arrival (entry authorisations)
