How São Tomé and Príncipe's membership of the CPLP affects entry for Portuguese-speaking countries' citizens.

São Tomé and Príncipe is a founding member of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), alongside Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Timor-Leste and Equatorial Guinea. CPLP membership underpins preferential mobility arrangements for citizens of these countries, and the CPLP's 2021 Mobility Agreement was designed to ease travel and residence between member states.

In practice this means many CPLP citizens and nationals of other exempt countries can enter for short stays without a pre-issued visa, while others use the online entry authorisation. Because the rules and lists are updated, travellers should confirm the current position for their nationality directly with the SMF.
