The application for a stay permit must be lodged within 30 days of arrival, but the official pages do not state a fixed processing time for a decision.

For long-term residence, the rules set a substantive qualifying period rather than an administrative turnaround: residence is granted by the Gendarmerie after at least five years of continuous ordinary or special stay permit, provided there has been no interruption of stay and no disqualifying criminal or public-order grounds.
