How to apply for a Myanmar visa

The main route for most visitors is the official eVisa portal; other visa categories are applied for at a Myanmar embassy or consulate.

Most tourists and business travellers apply online through the Ministry of Immigration and Population eVisa portal at evisa.moip.gov.mm. The process is a short online form followed by card payment, and an approval letter is emailed to the applicant, according to the Ministry.

The official portal describes four broad steps: accept the terms and conditions, complete the application form with your passport and travel details, pay the fee by card, and wait for the approval letter, which you print and present at the border on arrival.

Visa categories not covered by the eVisa system (for example employment, education, social visit and long-stay visas) are generally applied for at a Myanmar embassy or consulate before travel, or arranged with a Myanmar sponsor. Visa on arrival is available to a limited set of nationalities at the main international airports.
