Processing times vary by visa type, the completeness of the application, and the workload of the mission or the Ministry of Interior. Montenegro has introduced electronic submission channels intended to speed up decisions on residence applications.

Apply well ahead of travel or of the expiry of any current permit. Extension applications for temporary residence should be lodged before the current permit expires — for the digital nomad permit, at least 30 days before expiry.
