How to apply

Requirements
- Have resided permanently in the territory of Mongolia for at least 5 years.
- Be able to speak and understand the Mongolian language well, and have a general understanding of the Constitution of Mongolia.
- Have a legal source of living, with monthly earnings stated as 10 times more than the minimum wage.
- Provide evidence that you have given up (renounced) the citizenship of your own country — Mongolia does not permit dual citizenship.
- Meet health requirements (mental health and absence of specified communicable diseases) as certified by an authorised organisation.
Documents you may need
- Request letter addressed to the President of Mongolia setting out your personal and family status, work/residency history and family members' citizenship.
- A three-generation biography, dated and signed, with your current address.
- Completed citizenship application form.
- Notarised copies of your residence permit card (front and validity dates).
- Notarised copies of birth certificate, ID card and foreign passport.
- Notarised marriage certificate or divorce decree; parental agreement where you have children under 16, and written consent from children aged 16–18.
- Approval letter (with translation) from your own country's diplomatic mission, where applicable.
- Health reference from an authorised organisation.
- Income verification — salary reference, tax documents or a property certificate.
- Residency confirmation from the local governor.
- Three photographs.
- Proof of payment of the 60,000₮ fee.
Frequently asked questions
No. Mongolia does not allow dual citizenship. The Immigration Agency requires evidence that you have renounced your existing citizenship before Mongolian citizenship can be granted.
