Requirements

  • A written request to the INM setting out the humanitarian, national-interest or reciprocity grounds
  • Valid passport and identity documents
  • Supporting evidence for the humanitarian or special circumstances claimed
  • Registration in the National Registry of Foreigners (Registro Nacional de Extranjeros, RNE) once a permit is granted
  • Renewal of the authorisation while the application is being decided and the RNE registration completed

Frequently asked questions

  • Special permanence permits granted by the immigration authority may run for a maximum of five years. Holders are registered in the National Registry of Foreigners and issued a special permanence card that must be renewed each year before it expires.
