How to apply

  • Complete the official Remigrant application form
  • Provide evidence of Guyanese nationality and overseas residence
  • Submit to the Department of Citizenship / relevant authority

Requirements

  • A Guyanese citizen aged 18 or over who has resided legally overseas for at least five consecutive years and is now returning to Guyana, or
  • A Guyanese graduate who completed studies abroad and lived overseas for at least three years and is now returning to Guyana
  • The application must be lodged within the first six months of re-assuming residence in Guyana

Documents you may need

  • Proof of Guyanese citizenship (birth certificate, or naturalisation / registration certificate)
  • Current passport that is at least five years old — if newer, include the previous passport as well
  • For returning graduates, evidence from the institution confirming the course duration / time spent abroad
  • Documentary evidence of how you intend to earn a livelihood in Guyana to re-establish permanent stay
  • Travel records from the Central Immigration Passport Office
  • A Statutory Declaration sworn before a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner of Oaths, covering the items for exemption, any previous exemptions, and the vehicle details, with a list of items attached
  • Two passport-size photographs

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. Approved remigrants can import a new vehicle or buy one in Guyana with tax exemptions, and no longer need to have owned it for six months beforehand. However, you must remain resident 183 days per year for three consecutive years (vehicle over four years old) or five consecutive years (vehicle under four years old), and cannot sell or transfer the vehicle in that period, or the exemptions become immediately payable under the Customs Act.
