The CA-4 agreement and free movement in Central America
How Guatemala's CA-4 membership with El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua affects tourist stays and movement between the four countries.
Important
Guatemala is part of the Central America-4 (CA-4) agreement together with El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. Under CA-4, nationals of eligible countries admitted as tourists may travel between the four member states on a single tourist admission without further immigration formalities at the internal borders.
Because the tourist admission is shared across the CA-4 zone, time spent in the other member countries counts toward the same permitted stay, and moving between CA-4 countries does not by itself reset the clock. The IGM publishes a unified CA-4 manual describing how the regime is applied at Guatemalan borders.
If you need to stay longer, you can request an extension from the IGM or must leave the CA-4 zone; confirm current stay limits and extension rules with the IGM before relying on them.
