Whether a visa is required depends on nationality. ECOWAS citizens do not need a visa, and nationals of the UK, EU member states, Commonwealth countries and other states with reciprocal arrangements may enter visa-free for short visits. Other nationals need a visa obtained in advance or, where eligible, on arrival.

Anyone intending to work, study, run a business or settle needs the relevant permit regardless of whether they are visa-exempt for short visits.
