Who Needs a Brunei Visa

Whether you need a visa, and which type, is determined by your nationality's category and the purpose and length of your stay.

Official guidance Regularly updated

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs classifies nationalities into four categories. Category A and B nationals must obtain a visa before travel from a Brunei mission abroad. Category C nationals may apply for a visa on arrival. Category D nationals do not require a visa for a short visit. Travellers should confirm their nationality's category before booking travel.

The correct visa also depends on purpose: social visit or tourism, transit, business visit, professional visit, employment, study or dependant. Longer stays that go beyond a short visit require the appropriate pass (work pass, long term pass) or an entry permit for residence.

Regardless of visa category, every foreign traveller must be approved through the e-Arrival Card system before entry.
