Tonga operates a visa-on-arrival system for visa-exempt nationalities: a free Visitor's Visa is granted by a Customs officer at the point of entry. Most eligible travellers are granted up to 31 days, with some nationalities (such as Schengen/EU passport holders) reportedly granted longer.

Entry is conditional. Travellers must hold a passport valid for at least six months and a valid onward or return ticket to a country they are permitted to enter, and must satisfy the Customs officer that they have sufficient funds to support themselves. It is illegal to work, do business or study while in Tonga on a Visitor's Visa. Visitors can apply to extend their stay, reportedly up to six months, at an Immigration office.
