Who it's for
Remote workers, freelancers and location-independent business owners from outside the EU who can work from anywhere and whose income comes from outside Malta.
Requirements
- Non-EU / non-EEA / non-Swiss nationality
- Prove you can work remotely using telecommunications
- Work as an employee of a foreign company, a freelancer/contractor with mainly foreign clients, or owner of a company registered abroad
- Minimum gross annual income of €42,000
- Valid travel document
- Health insurance covering Malta / the EU
- Suitable accommodation in Malta
- Recent bank statements evidencing income and means
What you can do
- Reside legally in Malta while continuing your existing remote work
- Travel within the Schengen area during your stay
- Renew the permit if you continue to meet income and presence conditions
- Include eligible family members (spouse and dependent children)
How to apply
Applications are made online through Residency Malta's Nomad Residence Permit process. You complete the form in English and upload your passport, proof of remote work, income evidence, insurance and accommodation.
Once a Nomad customer-care officer confirms the application is complete you pay the administrative fee. Applications are typically reviewed within around two months, after which the permit is issued.
