Who it's for

International students admitted to an accredited Latvian university or higher-education institution for a full course of study.

Requirements

  • Attestation from the accredited institution confirming enrolment and expected study duration
  • Proof of subsistence (about €500/month)
  • Valid travel document
  • Life and health insurance valid in Latvia
  • Fluorography / chest X-ray result issued in Latvia (after arrival)
  • For applicants under 18, a notarised document naming the responsible person
  • Payment of the state fee

What you can do

  • Reside in Latvia for the duration of your paid studies
  • Work up to 20 hours per week without a separate permit
  • Travel in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Renew for further study periods

How to apply

After receiving your admission and paying the study fee, apply for the residence permit to OCMA or through a Latvian representation abroad. Renewal documents must be submitted no later than 40 days before the current permit expires.

After the permit is granted you present your Latvia-valid insurance policy and the fluorography/X-ray result.
