Requirements

  • A valid passport and visa application form.
  • Proof of onward travel and, where required, a visa for the onward destination.
  • Tickets or an itinerary showing the transit route.

How to apply

  • Complete the official visa application form on the Russian Consular Department portal (visa.kdmid.ru).
  • Arrange your onward travel through and out of Russia before applying.
  • Submit the printed form, passport and photo to a Russian embassy, consulate or authorised visa centre.
  • Pay the consular/service fee and collect the visa.

Frequently asked questions

  • A transit visa is for passing through only. Air transit is generally limited to a short period (commonly up to 3 days), while continuing overland by road or rail allows a slightly longer window. It cannot be used for a normal visit or stopover holiday.
