Requirements

Niger does not offer an open, walk-up visa on arrival for the general public. Under Niger's rules a traveller can only collect a visa at Niamey (Diori Hamani International Airport) when the National Police has already issued a pre-approved confirmation (sometimes called a 'flyer visa') before travel. Without that prior authorisation you are expected to hold a visa or e-visa obtained in advance.

Niger's e-visa service is operated by the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (Direction de la Surveillance du Territoire, DST) within the Ministry of the Interior, so in practice most visitors now obtain authorisation online before departure rather than relying on arrival.

  • A passport valid for the whole intended stay
  • Prior written confirmation/authorisation issued by the Nigerien National Police (for the on-arrival 'flyer' route)
  • Evidence of onward or return travel and where you will stay
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate (Niger sits in the yellow fever endemic zone and the certificate is checked at entry)
