Residence and Working in Niger
How foreign nationals regularise longer stays with a residence permit and obtain work authorisation.
Important
A Niger visa authorises entry, but living or working in Niger for longer requires further steps. Foreign nationals staying beyond the short-visit period must obtain a residence permit (carte/titre de séjour) from the General Directorate of the National Police.
Taking up paid employment additionally requires a work authorisation from the Ministry in charge of Employment and Labour. This is employer-driven: the employer typically justifies the need for a foreign worker, supplies a labour-inspection-approved contract, and shows the skills are not locally available. Long-term residents may in time become eligible to apply for Nigerien nationality under the Nationality Code.
