Official guidance Regularly updated

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Nicaragua requires travellers to complete an online entry request form (Solicitud de Ingreso Ordenado y Seguro) before arriving by air, land or sea. This is separate from any visa requirement and applies broadly regardless of nationality.

Nicaragua is also part of the Central America-4 (CA-4) Border Control Agreement with Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Under CA-4, permitted visitors can move among the four member countries, but the tourist stay allowance is counted across the whole CA-4 area rather than resetting at each internal border — to reset the clock a traveller generally must leave the CA-4 region.

Key points

  • Complete the online entry request form before travelling to Nicaragua.
  • CA-4 covers Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
  • Tourist time is counted across the CA-4 area, not per country.
  • Extensions of stay are requested at DGME offices in Nicaragua.
