How Much Does A UK Parent Visa Cost?

This page has been reviewed and verified by Michael Gibbons, UK Solicitor and Regulated Immigration Advisor, to ensure accuracy under current UK immigration policy. Confirm your visa requirements via Our UK Visa Guidance.

The cost of a UK Parent Visa varies depending on whether you apply from outside or within the United Kingdom, the length of the visa, and whether you select standard or priority processing. Below is an overview of the fees and associated costs for 2025, based on the latest Home Office guidance.

UK Parent Visa Fees 2025

As of October 2025, the Home Office charges the following application fees for UK Parent Visas:

  • Applying from outside the UK: £1,846 per applicant
  • Applying from inside the UK (switching or extending): £1,048 per applicant

These fees cover the cost of processing the application and biometric enrolment. Applicants must also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), currently £1,035 per year of the visa, which grants access to the National Health Service (NHS) during their stay. For more information, see What Is the Immigration Healthcare Surcharge (UK)?.

Additional Costs You May Need to Pay

In addition to the main application fee, you may incur the following extra costs:

  • English Language Test: Required if you are applying for the first time and not exempt. The test typically costs between £150–£200.
  • Document Translation: If your supporting documents are not in English or Welsh, they must be translated by a certified translator.
  • Legal Representation: Professional immigration advice can range from £500–£1,500 depending on case complexity.
  • Priority or Super Priority Service: Optional services for faster decision times. See UK Visa Priority Service Availability 2025.

For a breakdown of application and healthcare costs across visa types, you can visit UK Visa Fees 2025.

How Long the Parent Visa Lasts

A UK Parent Visa is usually granted for 2 years and 6 months initially. After this period, you can apply to extend your stay for a further 2 years and 6 months, provided you continue to meet the eligibility and financial requirements. Once you have lived in the UK for 5 years under this route, you may be eligible to apply for settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain).

Optional Upgrades and Services

If you wish to receive a faster decision, you can upgrade your application using a paid priority service. The fees for these services (as of October 2025) are approximately:

  • Priority Service: Additional £500 – decision in 5 working days.
  • Super Priority Service: Additional £1,000 – decision within 24 hours (available in select locations).

To check service availability in your region, see UK Visa Application Processing Centres 2025.

What the Fee Covers

The application fee includes:

  • Processing by the Home Office
  • Biometric enrolment (fingerprints and photo)
  • Basic verification of identity and supporting documents

However, it does not include additional costs for legal representation, document preparation, or supplementary tests required for your application.

Tips to Avoid Extra Costs

  • Ensure all documents meet Home Office formatting and translation standards before submission.
  • Use the digital upload system to submit files correctly — see UK Visa Supporting Documents – Digital Upload Guide.
  • Double-check the visa fee amount before paying, as rates can change during financial year updates.
  • Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge at the same time as your visa application to prevent processing delays.
