Most travellers who need a visa for Mali apply through a Malian diplomatic or consular mission, which issues visas on behalf of the Ministère des Affaires Étrangères et de la Coopération Internationale. Where an online application channel is available, applicants can begin the process on the ministry's platform and are directed to the mission responsible for their country of residence.

In broad terms you identify the correct visa category for your trip, complete the application form, gather your supporting documents, pay the applicable fee, and submit either online or to the mission. On arrival, foreign nationals staying long term must also complete residence formalities with the Police Nationale.

Typical steps

  • Confirm whether your nationality needs a visa or is exempt.
  • Choose the correct visa type for your purpose of travel.
  • Complete the application form and assemble supporting documents.
  • Pay the fee and submit to the responsible Malian mission or online platform.
  • Complete residence registration with the Police Nationale if staying long term.
