Who needs a Mali visa

How to work out whether your nationality requires a visa for Mali or qualifies for an exemption.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Whether you need a visa is determined by your nationality, your purpose of travel and the length of your stay. Citizens of certain countries can enter Mali without a visa for short visits, while nationals of most other countries must obtain a visa in advance from a Malian mission.

Because Mali is part of the Sahel States Alliance (AES) and announced its withdrawal from ECOWAS, arrangements affecting West African nationals have been changing. Confirm your eligibility with an official Malian mission before travel rather than relying on older guidance.

Factors that decide eligibility

  • Your nationality and any exemption that applies to it.
  • The purpose of your trip (tourism, business, study, work, family).
  • The intended length of stay (short stay versus long stay).
  • Any current entry restrictions in force for particular nationalities.
