Requirements
- Naturalisation is governed by the Kuwaiti Nationality Law (1959) and later amendments and is granted by decree at the state's discretion
- A long period of lawful, continuous residence in Kuwait is required - reported as 15 years for nationals of an Arab country and 20 years for others
- Knowledge of the Arabic language
- Being a Muslim by birth, or having converted to Islam, is a condition for the grant of full nationality rights
- Good character with no criminal convictions, and a lawful means of income
- Possessing qualifications or rendering services needed by Kuwait
How to apply
- There is no open application route; nationality is conferred by decree in narrowly defined, discretionary cases
- Applications and any supporting documents are handled through the Ministry of Interior
- Grants are extremely limited in number each year, so approval cannot be assumed even where the statutory criteria appear to be met
