Who Needs a Visa for Jordan

Whether you need a visa, and whether you can get one on arrival or online, depends on your nationality and the purpose and length of your stay.

Official guidance Regularly updated

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Jordan's entry rules vary by nationality. Citizens of many countries can obtain a visa on arrival or apply online for a visit visa, while nationals of other countries must obtain prior approval or apply at a Jordanian mission. The purpose of travel — tourism, transit, work, study, family or investment — determines which route and permit apply.

Any stay involving employment requires a work permit regardless of the visa held, and longer stays require a residence permit obtained after arrival.

Key eligibility points

  • Visa-on-arrival eligibility depends on nationality
  • A visit/tourist visa does not permit work
  • Work requires a Ministry of Labour work permit
  • Long stays require a Ministry of Interior residence permit
