How to apply for a Burkina Faso visa
Most Burkina Faso entry visas are now applied for online through the official eVisa portal, with a printed approval presented on arrival.
Important
Since 2023 Burkina Faso has moved its visa process online. Applications for transit, short-stay and long-stay visas are made through the official eVisa platform at visaburkina.bf, run by the Division de la Migration. The system replaced most in-person embassy applications, though visas can still be applied for at diplomatic missions and, in limited cases, at border immigration services.
You complete the online form, upload the required documents, pay the fee and, once approved, receive an electronic visa by email as a PDF. This must be printed and presented together with your passport to migration control at the point of entry, such as Ouagadougou airport.
Foreigners staying more than 90 days must hold a long-stay visa or a residence permit; workers and long-term residents complete additional steps with the National Police after arrival.
Application steps
- Choose the correct visa type (transit, short-stay or long-stay) on visaburkina.bf
- Complete, date and sign the online application form and information sheet
- Upload a valid passport, photos and supporting documents
- Pay the applicable visa fee and stamp duty
- Receive the approved eVisa by email, print it and present it on arrival with your passport
