Who needs a visa for Burkina Faso

Whether a visa is required depends on your nationality and the reason for travel. Nationals of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) countries have historically been able to enter and stay for up to 90 days without a visa, carrying a valid consular identity card. Burkina Faso has since joined the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and announced its withdrawal from ECOWAS, so travellers should confirm the current position before departure.

Most other foreign nationals need an entry visa, obtained online through the eVisa platform before travel. A visa on arrival exists only in limited or exceptional circumstances at Ouagadougou airport, and diplomatic, official, service and special passport holders may be treated differently.

Any stay exceeding 90 days requires a long-stay visa or a residence permit rather than a short-stay visa.
