Botswana operates a national electronic visa system at evisa.gov.bw, run by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. It lets eligible travellers apply online without visiting an embassy, covering visa types including tourist, visitor, business, investment, employment, transit and study.

The online process involves choosing the visa type, entering travel details, uploading supporting documents (usually as a single PDF) and paying online. If approved, the visa is printed at the office where the application was made, or the traveller carries the approval letter to have the visa printed at the airport or port of entry.

The portal was temporarily suspended in 2025 and has since been restored to full service. Travellers whose nationality is visa-exempt for short tourist or business visits do not need to use the eVisa system for those trips.
