US family visas

The US family category covers the routes for joining a close family member in the United States. Immediate relatives of US citizens — spouses, unmarried children under 21, and parents — have no annual numerical limit, while the family-preference categories (for other qualifying relatives of citizens and permanent residents) are capped each year and subject to the monthly Visa Bulletin. Separate nonimmigrant routes exist for fiancé(e)s (K-1) and certain spouses (K-3). What you must show depends on your relationship and on your US-based sponsor’s status. This section groups the US family routes and links to the official U.S. Department of State and USCIS guidance so you can confirm what applies to you.
