Beyond short visits, the UAE offers long-term residence routes for people who want to live and work there. This page explains the Green Residence route in plain language, drawing on the official ICP guidance; always confirm your own eligibility with the official sources.

Green Residence

Green Residence is a five-year renewable residence obtained through self-sponsorship, according to the ICP. It allows eligible people — such as skilled employees, freelancers and investors — to live and work in the UAE without a national sponsor.

Who administers it

Residence routes are administered by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP), and by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai. Use only the official channels.

Confirm your eligibility

Eligibility for Green Residence depends on meeting the official conditions for your category. Check the official ICP guidance to see whether you qualify before you apply.
