Important
Eligibility to enter Syria is decided primarily by nationality and reciprocity. Nationals of several neighbouring Arab states may enter without a visa; a wider group may be granted a visa on arrival; and everyone else must obtain a visa in advance from a Syrian mission.
There is a strict, long-standing bar on entry for anyone holding Israeli nationality, and travellers whose passports show evidence of a visit to Israel may be refused entry. Certain nationalities require special advance authorisation regardless of visa type.
