Who it is for
- Foreign spouses of South African citizens or permanent residents
- Partners in a proven permanent relationship of at least two years with a citizen or permanent resident
Requirements
- A completed BI-947 form (online) and a valid passport for each applicant
- A marriage certificate, or a notarial agreement attesting to a permanent relationship of at least two years
- A spousal affidavit confirming the relationship still exists (and later Part B updates as required)
- Proof of mutual financial and material support between the partners
- A medical certificate in the prescribed format, plus police clearance certificate(s)
- Attendance at an interview by both partners where required

- Reside in South Africa with your spouse or partner
- Apply separately to endorse work or study rights onto the spousal visa where eligible
How to apply
- Complete the BI-947 form online and assemble relationship and support evidence
- Prepare the required medical certificate and police clearances
- Submit the application through VFS Global (in-country) or a South African mission abroad and attend the interview
