Belgian Search Year after Studies (job seeker)

Who it's for

• Non-EU graduates of a Belgian higher-education institution
• Holders of an EU diploma obtained while studying in Belgium under mobility
• Graduates wanting to look for work or start a business in Belgium

Requirements

• Proof of the qualifying degree (Belgian institution, or EU diploma via Belgian mobility)
• Health insurance covering all risks in Belgium
• Proof of sufficient means of subsistence
• Valid passport or travel document
• Application filed within the required time window (before the current permit expires, or within three months for an EU diploma)

What you can do

• Stay in Belgium for up to 12 months after graduating
• Work without restriction while searching
• Look for a qualifying job or set up a company
• Switch to a single permit / self-employment route once you find work

How to apply

Graduates of a Belgian institution apply at their local municipality; holders of an EU diploma obtained through Belgian mobility apply at the Belgian diplomatic or consular post. The application should be lodged in good time — at least 15 days before the current permit expires for Belgian diplomas, or within three months of obtaining an EU diploma.

After the file is declared admissible the Immigration Office decides within 90 days. If approved, the holder receives an A card marked 'job seeker', valid for 12 months, with full access to the labour market.
