Migration registration on arrival

Foreign nationals must register their stay with the migration authorities shortly after arriving in Russia.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Almost all foreign visitors to Russia must be placed on migration registration at their address (hotel, host or landlord) within a set number of days of arrival. Hotels normally register guests automatically; visitors staying in private accommodation rely on their host to register them with the local MVD/GUVM office or via the government services portal.

Migration registration is separate from the visa itself and applies to visa-free visitors and e-visa holders as well as traditional visa holders. Keeping the detachable registration slip is important, as it may be checked on departure or during your stay.

Key points

  • Registration is the host's or hotel's responsibility, at the address where you stay.
  • It must be completed within the statutory deadline after arrival.
  • It applies to visa-free, e-visa and traditional-visa visitors alike.
  • Keep your registration confirmation for the duration of your stay.
