Two things distinctive to Indonesia: every arriving traveller must complete the online All Indonesia Arrival Card, and most long-stay visas convert into a KITAS limited stay permit after entry.

Indonesia requires arriving travellers to complete an online arrival card - the All Indonesia Arrival Card - before landing, submitted through the official immigration system rather than on paper. This applies alongside whatever visa or visa-free status you hold.

Indonesia also separates the visa from the residence permit. A limited-stay visa (index E-series) lets you enter, and once inside the country it is converted into a KITAS/ITAS limited stay permit card. After several years of continuous KITAS residence, some holders can apply for a KITAP permanent stay permit. Understanding this visa-then-permit sequence is key to planning any stay longer than a visit.
