Who it is for

  • Highly skilled or qualified professionals being appointed by an Indian company, organisation, industry or undertaking
  • Foreign nationals engaged by a foreign company or firm executing a project or contract in India
  • Not intended for jobs for which large numbers of qualified Indians are available

Requirements

  • Employment or engagement with a specific Indian or foreign employer operating in India
  • Salary generally above the notified annual floor limit (subject to sector exemptions)
  • No simultaneous employment with more than one company
  • Registration with the jurisdictional FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival where the visa exceeds 180 days

What you can do

  • Take up the specific employment or project engagement for which the visa was granted
  • Bring dependants who may apply for a corresponding Entry (X) Visa
  • Apply for extensions in India through the FRRO/FRO where permitted

How to apply

  • Apply through the Indian Mission/Post in your country of residence
  • Provide employment contract/appointment details and supporting company documents
  • After arrival, complete FRRO/FRO registration where the visa validity requires it

Frequently asked questions

  • No. A change of employer is not permitted while the Employment Visa is current. To change employer you must leave India and apply for a fresh Employment Visa.
