The student residence permit fee is from the GIS Fees and Charges schedule (effective 15 May 2025), given as a range, and may change. GIS does not publish a separate study-visa entry fee. Confirm the current fee and any entry-visa cost with GIS.

Requirements

  • An application letter from the school addressed to the Comptroller-General of Immigration
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs
  • Copies of the admission letter
  • Copies of the school fees receipts
  • A copy of the birth certificate (where applicable)
  • A sworn affidavit and a letter of support from a guarantor (where applicable)
  • The passport, submitted with the application
  • A copy of the non-citizen identification card

How to apply

The application is initiated by the admitting Ghanaian school, which writes to the Comptroller-General of Immigration on the student's behalf. The school submits the application letter with the admission letter, fee receipts and supporting documents, and the applicable government fee is payable on application.

A study visa allows entry to Ghana; once admitted, an international student obtains the student residence permit, which lets them reside legally for the full length of the course.
