Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

The steps below are the general shape of a Colombian visa application. Your exact requirements depend on your nationality, the visa category you need (Visitor V, Migrant M or Resident R) and your circumstances, so always confirm against the official Cancillería pages linked on this page.

Check whether you need a visa

Start with the official Cancillería requirements page to find out whether your nationality and purpose of travel need a visa or can enter Colombia visa-free for a short stay.

Choose the right visa category

Colombia has three visa categories under Resolution 5477 of 2022: Visitor (Type V) for temporary visits, Migrant (Type M) for those settling without permanent residence, and Resident (Type R) for permanent residency. Pick the one that matches your purpose and length of stay.

Apply online through SITAC

Visa applications are submitted online through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cancillería) system, SITAC. Use only the official Cancillería website to create and pay for your application.

Provide the requested documents

Follow the checklist and instructions shown in your own application, and provide the supporting documents requested for your visa category. Requirements vary by situation.
