Who Is Eligible to Enter and Stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Eligibility depends on nationality (visa-free vs visa-required) and, for longer stays, on meeting the grounds for temporary or permanent residence.
Important
For short visits, eligibility turns on nationality. Holders of travel documents from EU and Schengen states and a range of other countries may enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period; nationals of visa-required countries must obtain a short-stay visa before travel. In all cases you must hold a valid travel document, be able to show the purpose and conditions of your stay, and not be subject to an entry ban.
For stays beyond the short-stay limit, eligibility depends on qualifying for temporary residence on a recognised ground - such as employment with a work permit, study, family reunification, medical treatment, humanitarian reasons or real-estate ownership - and satisfying conditions on means of support, accommodation, health insurance and good conduct.
Permanent residence and citizenship have their own, longer eligibility rules built on continuous lawful residence.
