The visa waiver program, also known as an ESTA (Electronic System For Travel Authorization) is a online document that allows Irish citizens to travel without the need for a ‘full visa’.
The application is completed online and if you are approved the travel authorization is electronically linked to your passport. Citizens of Ireland are eligible to apply for an ESTA.
You may visit America for up to 90 days at a time for up to 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever is first.
If you are making multiple applications, each member of your party must submit an individual application. Once you submit an application, it will go through our 8 point check to ensure there will be no issues with your authorization. Sometimes it can take up to 72 hours for an application to receive a determination but you will be kept up to date from the moment your application is submitted.

An ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) visa waiver is available to Irish nationals who want to travel to the United States. The ESTA waives the need for a visa for Irish nationals travelling to the United States for up to 90 days for travel, business, transit, medical treatment, or short-term study.
A traveller in possession of an ESTA must not work for an American company. Travelers who solely get remuneration from their employment in their native country may use an ESTA to come to the United States.
An electronic passport is required if youre an Irish or European citizen travelling to the United States. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) must be completed by all qualified VWP nationalities and residents before they may travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA).
