UK Visas for family members

UK Visas for family members

UK family visas are a category of UK entry and residence authorizations that are issued to those who want to establish a permanent family life with their UK resident family members.

If you want to visit the United Kingdom temporarily, you must have a relative living in the country.

As part of the criteria for these types of visas, you must often demonstrate that your familial ties are real. To do this, you must provide marriage/birth certificates, photographic proof, and further paperwork. This may include evidence of your communication, cohabitation, or time spent together

There are few ways through which you can get a UK family visa:

  • As a spouse or partner of a UK resident.
  • As a parent of a UK resident.

UK Family Visa requirements

To qualify for a Family Visa, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be a British citizen or settled person’s spouse, partner, or close family
  • Be a spouse, partner, or close relative of an individual with valid UK immigration clearance.
  • The grandson or granddaughter of a British citizen (who was born in the UK)

If you want to visit the United Kingdom temporarily, you must have a relative living in the country.

A sponsorship letter may be needed if your entrance clearance needs a UK-based family member to serve as the visa sponsor. This section should describe how you are connected to or know the applicant, how long you have known them, and how often you see each other presently. It must also include proof that you are either a British citizen, a settled person, or a person with valid entrance clearance.

For stays of more than six months with a family member in the United Kingdom, a family visa is required.

Types of Family Visa

Some forms of visas based on familial relationships are temporary, while others are permanent. For instance, Spouse Visas have a duration of two and a half years and might result in ILR. Family Visitor Visas, on the other hand, are temporary and enable the bearer to visit a family member in the United Kingdom for a limited time (up to six months) before returning home.

In addition, each kind comes under a separate visa category, which implies that each has distinct qualifying conditions. For instance, the majority of Dependent Child Visas adhere to the same standards as the parent’s visa. Thus, if a parent with a Skilled Worker Visa wanted to bring their kid to the United Kingdom, for example, the child’s visa and criteria would be attached to theirs.

You may need a Standard Visitor visa or a Marriage Visitor visa if you will be in the UK for less than six months.

It is important to keep in mind that there is no standard “Family Visa”; if you want to join or accompany your spouse or relative in the United Kingdom, you must pick the category that best fits your situation. These classes consist of:

spouse or partner

fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner

child

parent

A relative who will offer you with long-term care
