UK visa and ETA fees
Current UK Home Office application fees, the Immigration Health Surcharge and other common costs.
Important
A UK application usually has more than one cost: the application fee itself, the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for most work, study and family routes, and — for many routes — proof that you have enough money to support yourself. The figures below were checked on gov.uk in August 2026. Fees are reviewed periodically (often in the spring), so always confirm the current amount for your exact route before you apply.
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
Most people applying to work, study or join family in the UK for more than 6 months must pay the IHS, up front, for each year their visa will last. It is paid in addition to the application fee, and each dependant pays it too. Visitors do not pay it.
- Standard rate — £1,035 per year
- Students, dependants of students, and Youth Mobility Scheme holders — £776 per year
- Applicants under 18 — £776 per year
Visitor routes
- Standard Visitor visa — £135 (6 months), £506 (2 years), £903 (5 years), £1,128 (10 years)
- Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) — £20 (for visitors who do not need a visa)
Work — Skilled Worker (per person)
- Applying from outside the UK — £819 (up to 3 years) or £1,618 (more than 3 years)
- Applying from inside the UK — £943 (up to 3 years) or £1,865 (more than 3 years)
- Jobs on the Immigration Salary List — £628 (up to 3 years) or £1,235 (more than 3 years)
- Plus the IHS (£1,035/year) and proof of at least £1,270 in savings unless your sponsor certifies maintenance
Study — Student visa
- Application fee — £558 (apply from outside the UK, or extend/switch inside the UK)
- Plus the student IHS rate (£776/year) and proof of maintenance funds
Other common costs
Depending on your route you may also pay for an optional priority or super-priority decision, a TB test, biometrics or document services, translations, and (for settlement or citizenship) the Life in the UK Test. Family and settlement fees vary by route — check the specific route on gov.uk.
