Spanish Self-Employment Visa (Visado de trabajo por cuenta propia)

Who it's for

Non-EU nationals who want to establish and run their own business or work as freelancers/self-employed professionals in Spain.

Requirements

• A detailed, viable business plan (often needing a professional-association report)
• Proof of any professional qualifications, licences or accreditation the activity requires
• Evidence of sufficient investment/financial means to launch the activity and support yourself
• Proof the project can generate enough income to live on
• Clean criminal record certificate (apostilled/legalised)
• Medical certificate
• Valid passport

What you can do

• Operate as a self-employed professional or business owner in Spain
• Register as autónomo and invoice Spanish and other clients
• Renew the permit and, over time, obtain long-term residence
• Apply for family reunification once conditions are met

How to apply

Applications are generally lodged at the Spanish consulate in the applicant's country of residence, with the business plan and financial documentation. The immigration authorities assess the viability of the project before the visa is granted.

After entering Spain, the holder registers with the tax and social security authorities as autónomo and applies for the foreigner identity card (TIE).
