Requirements

  • You are transiting through Kenya to an onward destination in another country
  • You will leave the airport or port precincts during your layover - travellers who remain within the airport on the same or a connecting aircraft/ship are exempt
  • A passport valid for onward travel, plus any visa required for your final destination
  • Proof of onward travel from Kenya

How to apply

  • Check whether you are exempt - you do not need a transit eTA if you will not leave the airport/port precincts
  • Apply online at etakenya.go.ke and select the transit option
  • Complete the form with your passport details and onward travel itinerary
  • Pay the applicable fee and submit the application
  • Present the approved transit eTA and your passport on arrival in Kenya

  • Any visa or entry authorisation required for your onward destination
  • A means of payment for the fee

Frequently asked questions

  • No. If you arrive and leave on the same aircraft or ship, or transfer to another aircraft without leaving the precincts of the airport, you are exempt. A transit eTA is generally needed only if you will leave the airport during your layover.
