Requirements
- Acceptance by a qualifying educational institution in Japan
- A Certificate of Eligibility confirming the study activity qualifies for the status
- Advance permission from a Regional Immigration Services Bureau for any paid work or paid internship
What you can do
- Study at the sponsoring institution in Japan
- Take part in an unpaid internship without prior permission
- Undertake paid work or a paid internship only with permission to engage in an activity other than that permitted by the status
How to apply
- Obtain acceptance from a Japanese educational institution
- Have the institution apply for a Certificate of Eligibility
- Apply for the visa at a Japanese embassy or consulate (or accredited agency / online where available)
- Enter Japan and receive the Student status of residence
