Requirements

  • You must hold a valid visa (where required) for the onward country you are travelling to, shown in your passport.
  • You must have a confirmed travel itinerary and onward booking demonstrating you are passing through Ireland rather than entering it.
  • You must disclose any previous visa refusals by any country and include the original refusal letter — failure to declare a refusal will result in refusal of your Irish visa.

How to apply

  • Complete the transit visa application on AVATS.
  • Prepare your application around 3 months before you travel.
  • Pay the €25 transit visa fee where applicable.
  • Print, sign and date the summary application form and submit it with your supporting documents to the relevant visa office.

Documents you may need

  • The signed AVATS summary application form.
  • Two passport-sized colour photographs, each signed on the back in your own script with your AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number.
  • Your current valid passport.
  • Travel itinerary and airline bookings/tickets showing departure dates and onward destination.
  • The visa for your onward destination country (if that country requires one), shown in your passport.
  • A written account of any previous visa refusal, with the original refusal letter.
