Federal Iraq vs the Kurdistan Region
Iraq has two separate visa systems — understanding which one applies to your trip is essential.
Important
Iraq operates two distinct entry regimes. Federal Iraq is administered by the Ministry of Interior through the evisa.iq portal, while the Kurdistan Region has its own autonomous system at visit.gov.krd run by the Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Interior.
A visa or authorisation issued by one system does not automatically grant entry under the other. Travellers planning to move between the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq should confirm that they hold the correct permission for each area, as internal checkpoints apply.
The Kurdistan system distinguishes between nationalities on 'List A' (who may apply online or obtain an e-Visa on arrival) and 'List B' (who must apply through a Region-based guarantor). Kurdistan e-Visas are stated to be valid for 90 days from issuance with a 30-day stay.
