Applying online through the Iraq e-Visa portal

How Iraq's official e-Visa portal (evisa.iq) works at a high level, when an embassy application is required instead, and where to confirm the rules for your nationality.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Iraq operates an official e-Visa system for eligible travellers, run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq. This page explains the system at a high level; because eligibility and rules vary by nationality and can change, always confirm the details for your situation with the official guidance and use only the official portal.

The official e-Visa portal

The official Iraq e-Visa portal is evisa.iq. Use only the official portal — third-party sites are not the government service. Whether you can use the e-Visa, or must apply through an embassy, depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit.

When an embassy is required instead

Some travellers apply through an Iraqi embassy rather than online. Certain purposes — for example journalism or NGO work — are handled through an embassy. Check the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance for the correct route.

Confirm before you apply

Because Iraq's entry rules can change, confirm your nationality's current requirements — and any separate Iraqi Kurdistan Region arrangements — with the official guidance before you apply, so you use the right route the first time.
